Ok, here are the instructions on how to IR sync your Palm to a Mac. The Catch-22 is that you need the files loaded on the Palm to begin with, so all you iMac users (myself incld) need to find someone who can use the serial cradle. You can't IR transfer the files Palm to Palm because for some reason, a required file always seems to get lost. Anyhow...

1. AMX.prc
IrLib.prc
SerialIrPanel.prc
SerIrCommLib.prc

get these files from the above site; they must be loaded up to your Palm unit (one way or another).

If you haven't updated to MacOS 8.6, then you proabably need to update your iMac's "Ir" extensions, too; in which case you will have to download the huge "Extras" file from the palm.com site. The 8.6 extensions work fine.

After that, you will need to set AppleTalk to IrDA (but don't make it active). Open the HotSync
Manager and set the HotSync port to Infrared.

On the Palm, press the Applications silkscreen button (the house icon), then Prefs, and in the dropdown menu in the upper right, select SerialIR and set "Serial via" to Infrared. Make sure HotSync is enabled.

Then hit the Applications icon again, select HotSync and tap Local Sync.

The Palm should be within about 2 feet of the iMac's Ir lens. I try to keep it within 12" and as "Head-on" as possible.

After that, all you need to do is enable HotSync and press Local Sync.
